This case study explores astrocartography, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, and their relocation to Château Miraval in France. It analyses how their planetary lines shaped both the allure and the challenges of life in Provence.
A Certified Astrocartographer’s Perspective from France

Introduction: A Château Written in the Stars
Nestled in the sun-drenched hills of the Var département in southeastern France lies Château Miraval, home of the famous vin rosé. Once the stage for the celebrated union of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Today, it now rests in the hands of their respective attorneys. How did this move go so dramatically wrong?
At first glance, the château seemed a perfect escape for Hollywood royalty: lavender fields, Provençal charm, and world-class vineyards. Yet beneath the idyllic surface, their astrocartography told another story — one of high emotional voltage, karmic entanglement, and a missed opportunity for lasting harmony. As a certified astrocartographer trained in the Jim Lewis method, here is what their maps reveal.
Brad Pitt’s Natal Chart and Relocation

Brad Pitt’s natal chart carries the mutable axis of Sagittarius rising opposite Gemini on the Descendant. This axis suggests adaptability and openness, a talent for wearing many hats and navigating change. His Capricorn stellium in the 2nd house adds weight. He is a builder, a strategist, someone whose identity is bound to tangible achievements.
Mars is exalted in Capricorn. Austin Coppock https://austincoppock.com/ in 36 Faces: The History, Astrology, and Magic of the Decans defines Mars in Capricorn (Decan-1). He says it seeks mastery through steady discipline and conquest of obstacles. This placement has shaped Pitt’s ability to climb to the pinnacle of Hollywood and later into multimillion-dollar business ventures. His natal chart establishes the groundwork: adaptable outwardly, relentless inwardly.
When Pitt relocated to Miraval, his Ascendant–Descendant axis shifted from mutable Sagittarius–Gemini to cardinal Aries–Libra. The tone of his lived experience became more urgent, direct, and confrontational. Mars, ruler of the relocated Ascendant, conjunct the Midheaven, stands out as the sharpest signature. One of ambition, visibility, and drive, but also volatility.

Brad Pitt’s Astrocartography Map
His Capricorn stellium moved from the 2nd to the 10th house. Thus creating a tug of war between career and home life. The 10th house gained power, but at the expense of the IC and familial harmony. The North Node relocated to the IC in Cancer, beckoning him toward roots, home, and family as destiny. As Jan Spiller writes in Astrology for the Soul, this placement calls the individual to soften control and embrace nurturing. But here, that call met heavy resistance.
On Pitt’s astrocartography map, the closest and most impactful line to Miraval is Pluto on the Descendant. It’s just 9 km away. In astrocartography, the closest line dominates: whether you invite it or not, that energy emerges. Pluto on the DC brings intensity in relationships, power struggles, and encounters with transformation through others.
Pressure Points at Miraval

Layered with this is his Mars Midheaven line, only 46 km distant. Where Mars meets the MC, drive and assertion play out publicly. It can bring professional triumph, but also conflict and exposure. These two lines form a crossing, or paran, north of Miraval at latitude 44°44ʹ. Jim Lewis considered parans to be about one-third the strength of a main line. Yet Pitt lived directly in the eye of this crossing.
The A-Frame Trap: Pluto and Mars at Miraval

I call this enclosure the “A-frame.” Like a huis clos – a closed room – it trapped him between Mars and Pluto, with no benefic lines close enough to mitigate the force. His Jupiter Ascendant line, normally a promise of expansion and good fortune, lay farther west by 300 km and effectively “shielded” by the A-frame. Miraval located east of that line would place Jupiter in his 12th house by angularity.* His North Node IC, about 43 km east of Miraval, which might have allowed him to create a nurturing home, was drowned out by the plutonic-martial pressure and separating energetically.
* Astrocartography maps show angularity by pinpointing where a planet’s path meets the Earth’s rotation at the exact moment of birth. This makes them more precise than a relocated chart for identifying planetary strength on location.

When Mars and Pluto triangulate, enclosed by intersecting lines and a paran, the result is not gentle friction. The atmosphere is volcanic: eruptive, urgent, intense, and inevitably transformative. Pitt’s mid-air altercation with his family echoes the symbolism: inside a sealed vessel, the pressure could only explode.
For Pitt, Miraval matched his relocated chart and astrocartography map. He amassed vast financial success in the vineyard, rooted in the bon terroir du Château, thanks to his Capricorn stellium in 10th house. Nevertheless, his North Node IC potential remained blocked and unintegrated. He stayed, as Robert Currey defines this planetary line in his A*C*G* handbook, “a stranger in a strange land“.
In the astrocartography of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie at Château Miraval, Brad’s map highlights forceful Mars – Pluto intensity, while Angelina’s reveals a subtler feminine archetype – one shaped less by conquest and more by relational and creative currents.
Angelina Jolie’s Feminine Weave of Archetypes

Angelina Jolie was born with Cancer rising, Capricorn on the Descendant: a water–earth cardinal axis. This axis makes her both sensitive and ambitious: drawn to caretaking roles, yet continually pulled toward powerful, sometimes demanding partnerships.
Her chart ruler, the Moon, sits high in Aries in the 10th house. It’s conjunct Jupiter and Mars: a global image as mother, advocate, and fighter. Her Sun and Mercury in Gemini fall in the 12th house with Juno and the South Node. This points to hidden struggles, karmic ties, and relationship patterns that play out behind the scenes. From the beginning, her chart blends maternal archetypes with deep relational challenges.

Relocating to Miraval pivoted her axis from Cancer–Capricorn (cardinal) to Scorpio–Taurus (fixed). Where once she initiated, she now entrenched: Scorpio rising with Taurus on the DC is less yielding, more locked in.
Both her natal and relocated chart rulers moved into the 6th house. The Moon, ruler of her natal chart, shifted from the 10th into the 6th. Mars, ruler of her new Scorpio Ascendant, also resides in the 6th in domicile. The 6th house was traditionally the “house of domestics”: routines, staff, caregiving, health and maintenance. For Jolie, this meant her energy became absorbed by schedules, children’s care, and relentless daily management of the Miraval estate.
Ceres, Juno, and the Myth of Persephone
Juno, goddess of marriage, became “shadowed” in the 8th house – co-present with the Sun, Mercury, and the South Node. Jim Lewis described shadowed planets as harder to access and integrate, creating knots of unfinished business. Here, Juno shadowed in Scorpio’s house suggests relational knots around shared assets, secrecy, and the struggle for control. Demetra George and Douglas Bloch on Juno in Asteroid Goddesses, say it’s a difficult placement. Poorly aspected, it often reflects unfulfilled expectations of commitment and partnership. Jolie’s 8th house pile-up fits that mold.
Meanwhile, Ceres – the Great Mother – relocated into her 7th house in Taurus, opposing the new Scorpio Ascendant. This placement makes nurturing and caretaking the mirror of her partnerships: care expected, care given, often to exhaustion. Strikingly, Jolie’s only close planetary line at Miraval was her Ceres Descendent line, lying just 9 km from the estate
Unlike Pitt’s martial-plutonic A-frame, Jolie’s map at Miraval is profoundly feminine in archetype. Her closest planetary line, Ceres DC, is reinforced by local space directions of Pallas and Vesta. On the Geodetic map, we find her Venus rising line. It passes through France and London (where she met Pitt during Mr. & Mrs. Smith).

The myth of Ceres (Demeter) and Persephone is unavoidable here. Ceres, archetype of the nurturing mother, lost her daughter Persephone to Hades (Pluto). Forced to spend part of each year in the underworld. La résonnance is uncanny. Jolie, with her maternal French heritage and twins born in France, relocated to a vineyard governed symbolically by Ceres. Only to find herself in custody disputes and the shadow of Pluto across the partnership.

Two Moon Parans
Her closest paran at Miraval, Moon–Descendant with Saturn–Midheaven, lies at latitude 43°12ʹ. This reinforces the theme: mother (Moon) plus responsibility and endurance (Saturn). Though Juno in the 8th shows relational undoing, this paran offered her stoic resilience. Her relocated Moon–Saturn midpoint echoes the same story. Covert strength, the ability to endure trials while continuing her maternal and humanitarian role.

Overall, Jolie’s map forms a ‘feminine weave’: Moon, Ceres, Venus, Juno, Pallas, and Vesta – nearly the full pantheon of goddess archetypes woven onto the estate in France. But the weave is torn, with the Moon Saturn paran and Juno shadowed in the 8th house. The promise of sacred partnership was there, but the strain of control, secrecy, and endurance pulled harder.
Geodetic Resonance Across France and London
Geodetic Astromapping isn’t a replacement for angular lines but I use it as a resonance map. Here, we find Venus geodetically bathing France – a signature of culture, beauty, and family lineage. This ties in with her mother, Marcheline, and godmother’s (Jaqueline Bisset) roots and is clearly mirrored. Her geodetic Venus Ascendant line further ties France and London into her story, echoing the themes of beauty, love, and partnership – including her meeting with Pitt while filming Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

Conclusion: Foresight Over Hindsight
Astrocartography doesn’t cause events. It reveals symbolic triggers. At Miraval, Pitt’s A-frame of Mars and Pluto enclosed him in relentless pressure. While Jolie’s goddess weave tied her to the maternal archetypes of Ceres, Moon, and Venus. But shadowed her partnerships through Juno.
Together, they chose a Château written in their stars. The result was half-billion-dollar success in wine, but also a familial rupture that continues to this day.
Remote Activation Still Alive
As Jim Lewis, the father of modern-day astrocartography, often reminded his students, remote activation is real. Leaving a property doesn’t erase the planetary imprint; as long as the tie remains, the energy lingers. Jolie has sold her share of Miraval, while Pitt holds on. Without closure, the story continues to reverberate.

Astrocartography as Foresight
The Miraval case shows why astrocartography is most valuable not as hindsight but foresight. Angular lines, house shifts, and archetypes combine into lived reality with extraordinary resonance and strain. Relocation is never neutral – it amplifies what is already seeded in the natal chart.
The value lies in clarity: when we know these patterns ahead of time, we can prepare, compensate, or select a better-suited location. The Château Miraval story remains one of the clearest examples of how planetary cartography can shape not just personal lives, but also major real estate and financial outcomes.
